The campaign was inaugurated with the planting of a sapling at the Punjab and Haryana High Court premises in the presence of Acting Chief Justice Ashwani Kumar Mishra, judges of the high court and other dignitaries.

Referring to Articles 21, 48A and 51A(g) of the Constitution, the Chief Justice said safeguarding the environment is a shared responsibility and essential for ensuring a cleaner, greener and more sustainable future for coming generations.
According to an official statement, the plantation drive will continue throughout the monsoon season, with lakhs of saplings to be planted at court complexes, legal services institutions, judicial residential complexes and other suitable public places across Punjab, Haryana and Chandigarh.
The initiative is being undertaken in collaboration with the forest departments of Punjab, Haryana and Chandigarh, with emphasis on planting indigenous, fruit-bearing, medicinal and shade-giving tree species.
