8th Health Insurer: Prudential Health India commences operations

By combining Prudential’s insurance and health capabilities with HCL Group’s technology and healthcare expertise, we aim to make more accessible and help more Indian families navigate their healthcare journey with confidence.”

Mumbai:Prudential HCL Health Insurance (Prudential Health India), a stand alone health insurance (SAHI)company backed by Prudential plc and the HCL Group, today comenced its business operations in India.

The joint venture, backed by a 70:30 partnership between Prudential plc (UK), and the HCL Group, received its license, from the regulator IRDAI on July 01, 2026, enabling it to initiate its health insurance business in India.

The company, the eighth SAHI, enters India’s growing health insurance market, amounting to almost $16 billion in gross written premiums in FY 2026.

As part of its launch strategy, Prudential Health India offers customers access to a network of more than 12,000 hospitals. Its omnichannel model brings together personal advice through its agency network and the convenience of an AI-enabled direct-to-consumer (D2C) platform. Together with digitally enabled services, this makes it easier for customers to choose the right cover, manage their policy and get help when they need it most, said the insurer in a statement.
