“With immediate effect, an operative Savings Bank Account with POSB or any Scheduled Bank is now an additional eligibility criterion for Rural Postal Life Insurance (RPLI),” the minister said on X.
New Delhi: The Department of Posts has allowed savings account holders of all scheduled banks to opt for rural postal life insurance, Minister of State for Communications Pemmasani Chandra Sekhar said on Friday.
The move will enable continuity of policy for migrant from rural to urban areas by allowing them to pay the premium from a savings bank account of any scheduled bank.
“With immediate effect, an operative Savings Bank Account with POSB or any Scheduled Bank is now an additional eligibility criterion for Rural Postal Life Insurance (RPLI),” the minister said on X.
A person can opt for rural PLI in the age bracket of 18-43 years and can invest up to 10 lakh in rural PLI.
RPLI is a prevalent insurance option in rural India.
The minister said that the step removes the traditional rural-residence barrier and brings affordable, government-backed life insurance closer to more families.
“The process is simpler and more citizen-friendly. Eligibility can be established through CBS status, email statements, mobile banking screenshots, ATM statements or updated passbooks. Where acceptable digital proof is available, no physical bank certificate is required,” he said.
