Nick Cook, Group CEO, said: “The opening of our GCC in Mumbai is more than an operational milestone. It is a platform for building the data and AI capability that will help BMS serve clients better and compete more effectively. India has extraordinary professional talent and we are committed to making the BMS India GCC a genuine centre of excellence for the Group, not just a support function.”

BMS, the independent insurance and reinsurance broker, today announced the opening of its Global Capability Centre (GCC) in Mumbai, marking a significant step in the group’s strategy to build data, analytics and artificial intelligence (AI) capability at scale.

The centre is led by Nipun Mapara, managing director, with Sanjeev Poojari appointed as Head of Operations.

As an integrated part of the group, the BMS India GCC will work alongside BMS teams globally across broking operations, data, analytics, technology and client service functions.

The GCC is central to BMS’s long-term operating model, broadening its access to talent, skills and AI expertise in India, while strengthening collaboration and consistency across the business.

As the group accelerates investment in data infrastructure and AI, including the live deployment of AI tools across broking and operations, the BMS India GCC provides the specialist capability needed to deliver at scale.

BMS was supported by EY, who advised on the feasibility, design and build of the centre, as well as the requisite skills required for in-market delivery.

The new centre complements BMS’s wider presence in India, following the recently announced strategic partnership with Berns Brett India (BBI). The GCC and investment in infrastructure, talent and technology on-the-ground in India marks the next phase of the BMS strategy to drive geographical strength, diversification and sustainable business growth.

Nipun Mapara, Managing Director of the GCC, added: “We are already operational and contributing across multiple workstreams, from broking support and client services to analytics and technology. The team here understands that what we build in Mumbai has a direct impact on how BMS performs globally. That sense of purpose is energising, and we are ready to go.”

Benedict Reid, EY UK Commercial & Specialty Insurance Leader, added: “Brokers are reimagining their operating models to bring advanced AI analytics and specialist talent closer to the heart of their business. Establishing a GCC in Mumbai has the potential to unlock direct access to cutting-edge AI skills and the ability to scale and deliver enhanced risk insight and client value. By combining sector, technology and operational capabilities, EY is supporting BMS to transform and compete in a rapidly evolving market.”
