Liberty General to pay motor damage claims due to Operation Sindoor

by AIP Online Bureau | Jun 2, 2025 | Briefs, Eco/Invest/Demography, Non-Life, Reinsurance, Risk Management | 3 comments

In the aftermath of the recent cross-border shelling during Operation Sindoor, Liberty General Insurance has become one of the first insurers to offer on-ground support and approve ex-gratia settlements for vehicle damage—even though such events fall under standard exclusions in most motor insurance policies. Typically, losses arising from war, invasion, or acts of foreign enemies are not covered under motor insurance as per industry norms.

Very enthusiastic steps taken and this benevolent act is praise worthy though it is not usually covered by the contract

Many insurers are not paying the motor claims occurred by the insured perils covered in the policy, even though it is payable & repudiate them citing any reason, finally pay after court decides in favour of the claim payment. Whereas, such claims paid by Liberty will set a record in the Indian general insurance industry industry.
