Tokio Marine Resilience will promote comprehensive disaster prevention and mitigation solutions through planning, developing and providing new services
Tokyo:
Japanese major Tokio Marine Holdings, Inc. (TMHD”) has announced the establishment of a 100 per cent owned subsidiary, Tokio Marine Resilience Co., Ltd( Tokio Marine Resilienc”), that will engage in disaster prevention and mitigation.
Tokio Marine Resilience will promote comprehensive disaster prevention and mitigation
solutions through planning, developing and providing new services.
Tokio Marine Resilience will leverage data and know-how accumulated by Tokio Marine & Nichido Fire Insurance Co., Ltd. (“TMNF”) over more than 140 years of insurance business operations, and will plan, develop and provide solutions in collaboration with Tokio Marine dR Co., Ltd., which is responsible for Tokio Marine Group’s core data functions, as well as risk consulting services.
Tokio Marine Group aims to provide comprehensive solutions for disaster prevention and mitigation, encompassing all phases of the disaster prevention and mitigation value chain (assessment, preparedness, evacuation, recovery/reconstruction) and address the
causes of damage such as flooding, landslides, earthquakes, and tsunamis.
“As well as supporting customers and local communities by paying claims, we also provide products and services that contribute to safety and peace of mind before and after disasters, reflecting our purpose of “protecting our customers and societies in their time of need,” said TMHD.
Tokio Marine Group has been working towards creating a comprehensive disaster prevention and mitigation business and Tokio Marine Resilience will help to realize this by providinG services in each stage of the prevention and mitigation value chain (assessment, preparedness, evacuation, recovery/reconstruction).
Through this business Tokio Marine Group will contribute to building a society that is resilient against natural disasters.
“Natural disaster preparedness has become one of the most important issues globally in recent years as we see more extreme weather events caused by climate change internationally and increasingly severe natural disasters throughout Japan,” further said the company.
Against this background, the Tokio Marine Group views natural disasters (disaster prevention/mitigation) a critical social issue and has conducted initiatives such as concluding a comprehensive collaboration agreement with the National Research Institute for Earth Science and Disaster Resilience, as well as launching and promoting the Disaster Prevention Consortium (CORE)
CORE has pursued initiatives in the areas of disaster prevention and mitigation, including business co-creation, with more than 100 member companies. These efforts have resulted in the formation of one of the largest private sector disaster prevention ecosystems in Japan and enabled the creation of new value through collaboration
among businesses.
There will also be collaboration with I-Resilience Co., Ltd.3, which develops business in data collaboration between industry, government and academia, and with AlgoNaut, Inc.4, which develops business in risk algorithms in the machine learning and deep learning fields, and with various external partners with capabilities in other industries, to provide a unique service that integrates insurance and risk solutions more flexibly.
Multiple service launches are planned for this fiscal year, to supplement the resilient
information distribution service already launched by TMNF, which is provided to customers across TMNF’s nationwide network.
