As many as 17.31 lakh new members were added to the Employees’ State Insurance (ESI) scheme in March by the Employees’ State Insurance Corporation (ESIC).
Around 19,000 new establishments were registered and brought under the social security umbrella of the ESIC in March, thus ensuring more coverage, the Ministry of Labour & Employment said in a statement on Monday.
”As per the provisional payroll data of ESIC, 17.31 lakh new employees have been added in the month of March 2023. Benefits of ESI scheme extended to 41 transgender employees in March 2023,” it said.
Out of the total 17.31 lakh employees added in March, 8.26 lakh people, accounting for 48 per cent of the total employees enrolled during the month, belonged to the age group of 25 years.
A total of 3.36 lakh female members were enrolled in ESI scheme in March.
Besides, a total 41 transgender employees were registered under the scheme in March.
The payroll data is provisional since the data generation is a continuous exercise.
