India reported 90,928 new COVID-19 cases in the last 24 hours, said the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare on Thursday. The daily positivity rate stands at 6.43 per cent while the weekly positivity rate stands at 3.47 per cent.

The country has reported 2,630 cases of Omicron variant of COVID-19 so far, said the ministry.

According to the ministry, Maharashtra has reported the maximum number of Omicron cases (797) followed by Delhi (465). The other states that have reported the Omicron variant cases in the country include Rajasthan (236), Kerala (234), Karnataka (226), Gujarat (204), Tamil Nadu (121), Telangana (94), Haryana (71), Odisha (60), Uttar Pradesh (31), Andhra Pradesh (28), West Bengal (20), Madhya Pradesh (9), Uttarakhand (8), Goa (5), Meghalaya (4), Chandigarh (3).

19,206 patients recovered from the disease during this period taking the total number of recoveries in India to 19,206 recoveries in the last 24 hours increases Total Recoveries to 3,43,41,009. The recovery rate currently is 97.81 per cent.

According to the health ministry, the active cases account for less than 1 per cent of the total cases at 0.81 per cent.

Mumbai reported 15,166 new coronavirus cases on Wednesday, its highest-ever daily count so far, and three deaths, civic officials said.

But almost 87 per cent of new patients were asymptomatic, they added.

The daily cases rose by 4,306 from a day ago.

The city’s overall coronavirus infection count jumped to 8,33,628, while the death toll increased to 16,384, the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) said in a bulletin.

At 15,166, the country’s financial capital recorded its all-time high daily rise in the cases since the outbreak of the pandemic in March 2020. On Tuesday, the city had logged 10,860 cases and two deaths. So the latest infection count reflected a jump of 4,306 cases, or 39.65 per cent.

The number of sealed buildings increased to 462 , while the number of containment zones in slums and chawls is 20.

The number of deaths due to COVID-19 rose to eight in Delhi on Wednesday, the highest since June 16 last year, while that of single-day hospital admissions saw a significant jump to 222, amid a massive spike in the case tally, official figures showed.The city also logged 10,665 fresh cases of the infection with a positivity rate of 11.9 per cent, according to the bulletin.

The ministry further informed that 68.53 crore COVID-19 tests have been conducted in the country so far with the administration of 148.67 crore vaccine doses under the Nationwide Vaccination Drive.
