“Our team immediately sprung into action obtained minimum mandatory documents required for the bank and expeditiously released the amount of sum insured i.e. Rs.30 Lacs within an hour and also ensured that the amount gets credited to their Axis Bank account of Brigadier L S Ladder on the same day,” informed Atul Sahay, CMD, New India Assurance .

“UII settled the Group Personal Accident (GPA) claims of all the decorated army and IAF officers including CDS Bipin Rawat in record time post the tragic helicopter crash. They were all covered under our SBI GPA Policy,” said Satyajit Tripathy, CMD, UII.

State owned general insurers including New India Assurance(NIA) and United India Insurance(UII) have rushed to settle the personal accident(PA) claims of all military personnel including India’s first Chief of Defence Staff (CDS),General Bipin Rawat and Brigadier L S Ladder within just a few hours after they lost their lives in a tragic helicopter crash in Wellington.

Thirteen of 14 people on board the Mi-17V5 helicopter including General Rawat, his wife Madhulika Rawat, Brigadier Ladder were killed after it crashed on December 8. 

Chennai based UII has settled Group Personal Accident(GPA) claims of deceased defense officials including CDS General Rawat and others while NIA has paid the claim of  Brigadier Ladder at the shortest possible time.

“NIA holds our defence personnel on the highest pedestal and this act of settlement of claim is our way of offering deepest respects to the departed soul and support to the family,” said Atul Sahai, CMD, NIA.

“UII settled the GPA claims of all the decorated army and IAF officers including CDS Bipin Rawat in record time post the tragic helicopter crash. They were all covered under our SBI GPA Policy,” said Satyajit Tripathy, CMD, UII.

Life Insurance Corporation also doing its bit by quickly settling the claims of these deceased military personnel.

“The claim settlement is happening s across country from corporation’s various offices. We are under obligation to pay all genuine claims,” said a senior official of the Corporation. .

For UII, they were covered under its State Bank of India (SBI) GPA Policy for account holders and all these claims worth around Rs 30 lacs each which were settled in record time of 30 minutes on receipt of documents, a feat never heard of in the industry, said sources.

Brig Lidder was covered under a policy issued by our Mumbai Large Corporate Broker Office-2 which covers defence personnel having salary accounts with Axis Bank.

“Upon our enquiries, we received a formal request from our intermediary partner on Friday, requesting for speedy settlement of the claim of Brig. L.S. Lidder.one among the unfortunate occupant of the helicopter. Our team immediately sprung into action obtained minimum mandatory documents required for the bank and expeditiously released the amount of sum insured i.e. Rs.30 Lacs within an hour and also ensured that the amount gets credited to their Axis Bank account the same day,” informed Sahay.

UII also quickly settled the claims of Squadron Leader Kuldeep Singh,Indian Air Force,(IAF), Wing Commander Prithvi Singh Chauhan(IAF), Junior Warrant Officer(JWO) Rana Pratap Dass(IAF), JWO Pradeep Arrakal(IAF),Naik Jitendra Kumar(Indian Army),Naik Gursewak Singh, Havaldar Satpal Singh(Indian Army).  

Group Captain Varun Singh is the lone survivor of the crash and is presently admitted at Air Force Command hospital in Bengaluru for further treatment.

The bodies of all the remaining 10 armed forces personnel killed in the IAF chopper crash near Coonoor were positively identified and six of them were handed over to their families, military officials said on Saturday.

The armed forces personnel whose bodies were identified and then sent to their home towns in IAF aircraft are Pradeep, Wing Commander P S Chauhan, Rana Pratap Das, Squadron Leader K Singh, Lance Naik B Sai Teja and Lance Naik Vivek Kumar.

The “positive identification” of the remaining four mortal remains was done through DNA testing and they will be handed over to the family members on Sunday, an official said on Saturday night.

The SBI Defence Salary Package (DSP) account is meant for the Indian defence personnel of the Army, Navy, Air Force, Indian Coast Guard, Assam Rifles, Rashtriya Rifles (RR) and a Group Accident Policy issued by the UII for this package has provisions to pay an insurance claim of Rs 30 lakh in case of death or total disability and Rs 10 lakh for partial disability of of an account holder.
