Mumbai: 

G Srinivasan, 60, former CMD of New India Assurance, has been appointed as the director of Pune based National Insurance Academy(NIA).
 

The governing council of NIA headed by Alice Vaidyan, CMD , GIC Re, met on Nov 29 and had unanimously selected Srinivasan to head NIA ,with a three-year tenure.
 

Sushobhan Sarker, the previous director of NIA had completed his tenure on 31 October this year and is on an extension till his successor is in place .
 

Srinivasan had retired from New India Assurance, the largest Indian general insurer, in July end, after heading company during 2013-2018 and is likely to take over his new assignment in third week of December.He was also CMD of Chennai based United India Assurance during 2008-2013.

 

A cost accountant by qualification, he has vast experience in the general insurance industry at various places in India and abroad having handled both operations and well as corporate management level portfolios.

 

He was also chairman of Governing Body of Insurance Council and National Insurance Academy – Pune. He was a chairman of GIPSA (General Insurance Public Sector Association) -Delhi as well as Chairman of General Insurance Council – Mumbai and member,Insurance Information Bureau of India (IIB).  
 

Founded in 1980 by the ministry of finance with capital patronage from the Life Insurance Corporation(LIC) and public sector general insurance industry, in Initial years, NIA was dedicated to Management Development Programmes catering to the insurance industry professionals to enhance the management skills and do main expertise.

 

Later, the two year Post Graduate Diploma in Management course was addedto fulfill the growing demand of skilled professionals in Insurance and Risk Management.
