New Delhi:
India reported 1,14,460 new COVID-19 cases, 1,89,232 discharges, and 2,677 deaths in the last 24 hours, informed the Union Health Ministry on Sunday. This is the lowest number of cases reported in the last two months. On April 5, 96,982 cases were reported. The following day, 1,15,736 new cases were reported.

A total of 2,88,09,339 positive cases have been reported so far, including 2,69,84,781 recoveries, and 14,77,799 active cases. As many as 36,47,46,522 samples have been tested in the country up to June 5 including 20,36,311 samples tested on Saturday, the Indian Council of Medical Research informed.

The national Recovery Rate has increased to 93.67 per cent. The weekly positivity rate, meanwhile, stands at 6.54 per cent. As many as 23,13,22,417 doses of the COVID-19 vaccine have been administered so far. 

 India continues to be second-most-affected globally. The active cases in the country have been less than 200,000 for the nine successive days.

The six most affected states by total cases are Maharashtra (5,805,565), Karnataka (26,35,122), Kerala (2,584,853), Tamil Nadu (2,172,751), and Andhra Pradesh (1,738,990).

More than 1.63 crore COVID-19 vaccine doses are still available with the states and Union Territories to be administered, the Union Health Ministry said on Sunday.

The Centre has so far provided, both through the free of cost and through direct state procurement categories, more than 24 crore vaccine doses (24,60,80,900) to states and UTs.

Of this, the total consumption, including wastages is 22,96,95,199 doses, the ministry said.

"A total of 1,63,85,701 COVID-19 vaccine doses are still available with the states and UTs to be administered," it said.

World coronavirus update

The world is seeing a slight decline in the number of fresh coronavirus cases that are recorded daily. 173,705,211 has been infected across the globe by the deadly contagion since November 2019. While 156,570,213 have recovered, 3,735,771 have died so far.

The US remains the worst-hit country with 34,203,721, followed by India, Brazil, France and Turkey. However, in the past seven days, India has added the highest number of fresh cases at 1,073,053, followed by the Brazil (444,641) and Argentina (230,021).
