Health schemes, lower drug prices led to annual saving of Rs 50k cr for needy families: PM

Stating that poor and middle-class families are saving about Rs 3,600 crore every year on expensive medicines through the scheme, Modi said it is promoting ‘Aatamnirbharta’ among women as more than 1,000 centres are being run by the women.
”It has led to the saving of Rs 12,500 crore per year for the needy people. The Ayushman Bharat scheme is helping 50 crore people get Rs 5 lakh worth of treatment. Over 1.5 crore people have already taken this benefit. It is estimated that it has led to savings of around Rs 30,000 crore for people.

“There are four major components of the policy…Apart from rebate, there are provisions of green taxes and other levies on old polluting vehicles. These will be required to undergo mandatory fitness and pollution tests in automated facilities. For this automated fitness centres would be required through out in the country and we are working in that direction,” Gadkari said.

Automated fitness tests will be set up under public private partnership (PPP) mode while the government will assist private partners and state governments for scrapping centres, he said.

Delhi among top three states with most contaminated sites, says Pollution Control Board

Odisha tops the list with 23 contaminated sites, followed by Uttar Pradesh (21) and Delhi (11).
According to the Union Environment Ministry, ‘Contaminated Sites’ are delineated areas in which the “constituents and characteristics of the toxic and hazardous substances, caused by humans, exist at levels and in conditions which pose existing or imminent threats to human health and the environment”.

Contaminated sites may include production areas, landfills, dumps, waste storage and treatment sites, mine tailings sites, spill sites, chemical waste handler and storage sites located in various land uses.
