Mumbai:
The Banks Board Bureau, the recommending body for the appointment of Chairmen,CEOs and MDs of public sector banks and insurance companies,on Friday, has chosen Suchita Gupta, general manager, GIC Re as the CMD of National Insurance Company and Inderjeet Singh,general manger, New India Assurance as CMD of Chennai based United India Insurance.
Both Tajinder Mukherjee, CMD,NIC and Girish Radhakrishanan,CMD, UII , will be retiring in June end.
“The Banks Board of the Bureau headed by BP Sharma interfaced with eight candidates on Friday for the forthcoming CMD positions in NIC and UII and keeping in view their performance in the interface and their overall experience, Gupta and Singh have been selected for the two posts,” said BBB on Friday late evening.
Sunita Tuli Nagpal, GM , NIC ,SL Tripathy, GM, GIC Re have been kept has reserve candidates for the top posts of NIC and UII respectively.
This is for the first time a senior official of GIC Re, after it was coverted into a reinsurer,has been chosen to head a primary general insurance company.
The other candidates who were interviewed by BBB are- Madhulika Bhaskar, GM, GIC Re, Surya Swaroop S Saxena,GM, Agriculture Insurance Company, Rajeshwari Singh, GM, AICL, Rekha Gopal Krishna, GM, NIA,
On the basis of BBB recommendations, ministry of finance(MoF) will process the papers of Gupta and Sigh for the approvals of Appointments Committee of Cabinet(ACC) that may take two to three months before the appointment letters are issued for the two officials.
Recently Anjan Dey had joined as the CMD of Oriental Insurance Company. The post of CMD at New India Assurance will fall vacant after Atul Sahai, CMD , retires in Feb 2022.
Meanwhile, the MoF has postponed the interview date for selecting five directors in the public sector general insurance industry. The interview which was supposed to be held tomorrow, will now take place in May 11.
As far as vacancies, as on April 2021, of director posts are concerned, there is one in UII, two in Oriental Insurance Company, one each in NIA and GIC Re.
Soon BBB will also conduct interviews for the posts of six Insurance Ombudsmen.
