Over ₹56 lakh was awarded to the two children, including a toddler whose right leg was amputated below the knee, and a five-year-old girl who suffered severe facial disfigurement and head trauma. This money has been ordered into a fixed deposit in a nationalized bank until they become adults.

MUMBAI: A motor accident tribunal here has awarded a cumulative compensation of nearly Rs 1.09 crore to a family of four, including two minor siblings who were left with severe disabilities following a road accident in Bihar in 2018.

One of the victims, a two-year-old boy, had suffered an injury that resulted in the amputation of his right leg below the knee.

The Motor Accident Claims Tribunal (MACT) said the amputation would severely restrict his ability to walk and play sports, adversely affecting his overall personality and future marriage prospects.

The compensation was broken down and awarded to each affected family member.

Two Minor Children: Over ₹56 lakh was awarded to the two children, including a toddler whose right leg was amputated below the knee, and a five-year-old girl who suffered severe facial disfigurement and head trauma. This money has been ordered into a fixed deposit in a nationalized bank until they become adults.

Mother: Granted ₹41.75 lakh as compensation because her right arm was severely injured and had to be amputated, resulting in an 88% permanent disability.

Father (Motorcycle Rider): Granted ₹10.80 lakh because the crash resulted in a 46% permanent disability, significantly impairing his future job prospects.

For complete transparency, the tribunal ordered the funds designated for the minor children to be safely secured in fixed deposits in a nationalized bank until they reach the age of majority.
