LIC and HDFC Life relax norms for claim payments for victims of Wayanad disasters

The government has mandated the Public Sector Insurance companies and insurance regulator IRDAI has asked the insurance industry to extend all possible support to the victims of the landslide incident in Kerala

Siddhartha Mohanty, CEO & MD, LIC, announced concessions to mitigate the hardships for claimants of LIC Policies and also of Pradhan Mantri Jeevan Jyoti Bima Yojana affected by the Wayanad disasters

Mumbai: Life Insurance Corporation(LIC ) and HDFC Life Insurance have announced relaxations in norms for settling the claims of victims of disaster at Wayanad in the state of Kerala.

Earlier, while the government has mandated the Public Sector Insurance companies ,insurance regulator IRDAI has asked the insurance industry to extend all possible support to the victims of the landslide incident in Kerala so that the insurance claims can be expeditiously processed and paid.

Union Finance Ministry said, LIC has been asked to speedily disburse the claim amount in respect of the policyholders under the PM Jeevan Jyoti Bima Yojana. The Ministry said, the documentation required for processing of claims has been relaxed comprehensively to ensure speedy dispersal of the claim amount.

The insurance companies have initiated efforts for reaching out to their policyholders through various channels to provide the contact details for assistance in the districts of Wayanad, Palakkad, Kozhikode, Malappuram, and Thrissur, where a significant number of claims are being reported.

The General Insurance Council will coordinate with the insurance companies to ensure that claims are processed and paid expeditiously and will host a portal for all insurers to report claim status daily. The Ministry said, Central Government remain committed to supporting the victims of this calamity and ensuring they receive the necessary assistance without delay and trouble.

LIC’s nodal officers have been nominated at Kozhikode division for liaison with the state government official in this regard for expeditious claim settlement.

HDFC Life has also simplified the claims submission process to ensure quick and hassle-free support for the affected families.

Simplified requirements for claim submission are: Proof of death issued by local government authorities, police, or hospitals, nominee identity proof and bank details,
