The Reserve Bank of India(RBI) on Saturday said that the deadline for deposit/exchange of Rs 2000 banknotes has been extended to October 7, 2023, from the September 30 .
The central bank said that from October 8, Rs 2000 banknotes can continue to be exchanged by individuals at the 19 RBI Issue Offices up to a limit of Rs 20,000 at a time.
Around Rs 3.42 lakh cr of Rs 2,000 notes, representing 96 per cent of currency in circulation in that denomination, returned to banks since May, said RBI.
