Mumbai:

The new formed Financial Services Institutions Bureau (FISB), to select the CEOs and directors of PSU banks and insurers, has asked the Indian Banks` Association (IBA) to appoint a consultant to design and deliver a leadership development programme for public sector banks in the country.

FSIB is likely to select CEOs and directors of PSU banks from the participants of the proposed programme.

The IBA has invited requests for proposal (RFP) to select a firm that has capability to design and deliver a training programme for senior officers of PSU banks that can be delivered through three modes — online as e-learning modules, online through live webinars / meetings and through In-person mode.

Given the many challenges faced by the PSBs in India and that too in an ever-increasing competitive landscape, it is now imperative that comprehensive leadership development becomes a priority to transform PSBs, according to IBA.

In this context, one of the mandates given to the FSIB by the Government of India is to help PSBs develop a robust leadership succession plan for top management positions that would arise in future through appropriate HR processes.

The objective is to develop a future generation of leaders who are digitally savvy, strategic thinkers with capability to build highly collaborative teams and create a customer centric organization that thrives in a very dynamic competitive environment, IBA said.

Accordingly, to accelerate leadership development in PSBs in India and support the top management of PSBs through their professional development journey, FSIB proposes to launch a Leadership Development Programme.

“The selected bidder will have to develop and implement a governance process that will allow the Bureau to track the progress of the intervention plan and assess the shift in leadership competencies for the participants,” IBA said.

It is expected that each year around 75 senior management participants will attend this programme on and off campus involving around 30 days (may include weekends) of various interventions during the 9.5 months leadership development journey, the IBA said.

A Monitoring Committee will conduct a monthly review of the project activities and deliverables to gauge the output.
