New Delhi:

State owned Oriental Insurance Company (OIC) has paid  Rs 1.5 crore of claim to the family of 15 police jawans of Maharshtra who were killed in a recent Maosits attack in Gadchiroli.

 

Fifteen C-60 commandos, including a woman, and a driver were killed after a blast triggered by Maoists in Kurkheda, ripped apart two security vehicles on May 2

 

“Each of jawan’s family was paid Rs 10 lakh as they were cover under a group policy bought by the Maha governmet.’’ said Ajit Kumar,general manager,OIC. 

 

OIC  has been providing insurance cover to to around 2 lakh Maha police personnels, from top to bottom of the force, for over a decade,he said.

 

Around Rs 5.85 cr of premia was earned by the OIC from Maharashtra Police under the current one year scheme that will renewed in July.

  

So far, a total of 68 claims have been received by the company under the scheme during the current year. Last year, the company has payed 95 claims.

 

A unit of the Quick Response Team (QRT) of the Gadchiroli police was on its way to provide reinforcements to the police station in Kurkheda taluka, nearly 60 km north of Gadchiroli, when the blast was triggered near Lendali Nullah, in Jamburkheda village, six kilometres from the police station.
