India’s IT ministry told the High Court in New Delhi that Twitter’s non-compliance amounted to a breach of the provisions of the IT Act, causing the U.S. firm to lose its immunity, according to the filing dated July 5. The filing came in a case filed by a Twitter user who wanted to complain about some allegedly defamatory tweets on the platform, and said the company was not complying with the new law that requires appointment of certain new executives.

Public, not polluters, too often pay to clean up environment, EU auditors say

“Polluters need to pay for the environmental damage they cause,” said report author Viorel Stefan. “Up to now, though, European taxpayers have far too often been forced to bear the costs that polluters should have paid.”

The auditors looked at a sample of 42 environmental clean-up projects, backed by 180 million euros ($214 million) of EU funds, to fix issues like industrial pollution and contaminated landfill sites in Italy, Poland and Portugal.

Air India flyer seeks Rs 30 lakh damages over data breach of 4.5 million passengers

A legal notice was sent to Air India management on Sunday by Ritika Handoo in which she said that the airline informed her about the breach on June 1, her lawyer said.

Terming the breach as a violation of her “right to be forgotten and informational autonomy”, she sought a compensation of Rs 30 lakh.

Air India’s passenger service system provider SITA faced a sophisticated cyberattack in February this year leading to the leak of personal data of 4.5 million passengers — which included passengers of the national carrier — from across the world, the email sent by the carrier said.

Health and Term Insurance Price Index marks a huge jump in Quarter 2

According to the report, there is a drastic shift spotted in the insurance price index of both – Term Insurance & Health Insurance. Both insurance schemes have undergone a major shift in terms of premium prices, age category, etc. in the months of April, May & June 2021.

Unlike Q1 2021, Health Insurance Price Index witnessed a major shift in the 2nd quarter with an increase of 4.87%, marking a surge of insurance premium prices to Rs. 25197 in the index value. The Insurance Price Index of Health Insurance had been constant in the last two quarters i.e. Q4, 2020 and Q1, 2021 at Rs. 24026.

India records 39,796 new COVID-19 cases, 723 deaths

The case fatality rate stands at 1.32 per cent, the data stated.

The cumulative vaccine doses administered has reached 35.28 crore under the nationwide vaccination drive, the ministry said.
“Eight States viz. Uttar Pradesh, Madhya Pradesh, Rajasthan, Tamil Nadu, Bihar, Gujarat, Karnataka, and Maharashtra have administered more than 50 lakh first dose of COVID-19 Vaccine in the age group 18-44 years”, the release stated.
