India to come out with space transportation policy, onboard

According to the Department of Space (DoS), globally, the participation of private agencies in providing launch services has increased and some of them have become significant players in the commercial market for launch services.

India is also witnessing the emergence of a ”New Space” wherein the private players in the space sector aim to tap the commercial potential of small satellite launch services by developing small satellite launchers for the global market, it said.

Govt extends I-T compliance deadlines; exempts tax on COVID treatment cost, ex-gratia payments from employers

“In order to ensure that no income tax liability arises on this account, it has been decided to provide income-tax exemption to the amount received by a taxpayer for medical treatment from employer or from any person for treatment of Covid-19 during FY 2019-20 and subsequent years,” it added.

Explainer: Climate change and financial disclosure – what’s at stake?

Global regulators are working towards creating a common set of guidelines for assessing climate-related financial risks.

The Financial Stability Board, an international body that monitors the global financial system, created the Task Force on Climate-related Financial Disclosures (TCFD), which released in 2017 recommendations on climate risk disclosure.

A network of central banks also released climate-change scenarios and guides for measuring risks, while the U.N. Environment Programme Finance Initiative (UNEP FI) last year published methods insurers can use to disclose climate risks.

G20 nations recommit to shaping human-centred recovery

“The crisis has impacted some sectors and groups much harder. In particular, it has hit women and youth, along with those in the informal economy.Those are also the groups facing the most difficult situations today and the biggest risk of being left behind in the months and years ahead,”ILO Director-General Guy Ryder said. 

Ryder outlined the cataclysmic impact of COVID-19, which has led to the loss of the equivalent of 161 million full-time jobs in the G20 nations. This, he said, represents a world of work crisis four times as severe as the one triggered by the financial crisis of 2008/09.

SC reserves verdict on Rs 4 lakh ex-gratia compensation to kin of COVID-19 deceased

The top court asked the parties to file written submissions in three days and specifically directed the Centre to simplify the process of grant of death certificates to the dependents of those who have died of COVID-19.

The Centre had earlier told the apex court that the ex-gratia compensation of Rs 4 lakh cannot be paid to the families of those who have died of COVID-19 as the finances of state governments and the Centre are under severe strain.

Govt not to seek disclosure of flash sales from etailers; to act on consumer complaints

Discount sales that benefit maximum to consumers will continue, but not fraudulent flash sales on the e-commerce platforms, the government said, adding that the etailers need not be “anxious” about the draft rules.

Ban on fraudulent flash sales, mis-selling and appointment of chief compliance officer/grievance redressal officer — are among key amendments proposed to the Consumer Protection (e-commerce) Rules, 2020, on which the government has sought public comments by July 6.
