Up to 1,500 businesses affected by ransomware attack, says US firm’s CEO

One of those tools was subverted on Friday, allowing the hackers to paralyze hundreds of businesses on all five continents. Although most of those affected have been small concerns – like dentists’ offices or accountants – the disruption has been felt more keenly in Sweden, where hundreds of supermarkets had to close because their cash registers were inoperative, or New Zealand, where schools and kindergartens were knocked offline.

Air India flyer seeks Rs 30 lakh damages over data breach of 4.5 million passengers

A legal notice was sent to Air India management on Sunday by Ritika Handoo in which she said that the airline informed her about the breach on June 1, her lawyer said.

Terming the breach as a violation of her “right to be forgotten and informational autonomy”, she sought a compensation of Rs 30 lakh.

Air India’s passenger service system provider SITA faced a sophisticated cyberattack in February this year leading to the leak of personal data of 4.5 million passengers — which included passengers of the national carrier — from across the world, the email sent by the carrier said.

DoT for Rs 10k fine on every call, SMS by pesky callers after 50 violations

The Department of Telecom (DoT) has proposed to make the norms more stringent by reducing the slabs for levying penalty to Rs 1,000 per violation for 0-10 breaches, Rs 5,000 each for 10-50 violations and Rs 10,000 each for more than 50 violations.
Besides, the DoT’s Digital Intelligence Unit (DIU) will check violations at the device-level as well.

The DIU will send a system generated message to suspected numbers for verification.

Stock exchanges, other officials liable to face penalties for tech glitches: Sebi

Stock exchanges, clearing corporation and depositories will have to pay in the range of Rs 1 lakh each working day to Rs 2 crore for flouting Standard Operating Procedure while Managing Director (MD) and Chief Technology Officer (CTO) of the MIIs concerned will have to cough up 10 per cent of their respective annual pay.

To avoid technical glitches, Sebi has suggested that MIIs should have Business Continuity Planning, disaster recovery policies and system audit processes in place.
