Latin America coronavirus death toll surges past 200,000
Apart from the United States, Brazil and Mexico have racked up more fatalities from the virus than any other country, and together they account for around 70% of the regional death toll.Both have struggled to balance the need to curb the spread of the virus with restrictive safety measures while trying to reopen their economies, which have been battered by the crisis.

“Different people have different immunity to the virus. Within a household, we do not follow social distancing rules or use masks. Between the appearance of the symptom and diagnosis, there is a gap of three to five days, which means all the family members are exposed to the virus. But still, not all get it,” Dileep Mavalankar,director, Indian Institute of Public Health Gandhinagar said.
He suggested that a “large percentage of population may not be susceptible to the virus,” and said the sero-surveillance study to measure antibodies against Covid-19 in the population would be helpful to find out exactly how many persons have already been infected.
Bihar flood situation worsens, 53.67 lakh people across 14 districts affected
With 16.89 lakh flood-affected people, Muzaffarpur is the worst-hit district, followed by 12.40 lakh people in Darbhanga and 8.09 lakh in East Champaran.

Govt gets ready to infuse Rs 10,000 cr of fresh capital into 3 PSU general insurers,amends GIBNA Act
The cabinet earlier had approved capital infusion of Rs12,450 crore for the three PSU general insurers that included Rs 2,500 crore already infused in these three companies in 2019-20,The ministry of finance(MoF) had clarified that out of fresh capital of Rs 10,000 crore,,Rs.3,475 crore will be released immediately;while the balance Rs,6475 crore will be infused later.

Covid-19 infections in the country jumped by 55,078 in the past 24 hours, while the death toll rose by 779 to 35,747, the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare said on its website.Maharashtra has reported its highest single-day spike of 11,147 cases and its tally now stands at 4,11,798. Tamil Nadu’s corona tally has shot up to 239,978 with 5,864 fresh cases. Both states have extended their lockdowns until August 31, with some relaxations.
