18-plus beneficiaries may be vaccinated against Covid by Dec 2021: Centre

Asked if the government has decided to administer the COVID-19 vaccine to the entire population free of cost on priority basis and if so, the target fixed to administer the doses, the health minister said according to Revised Guidelines for Implementation of National COVID Vaccination Program, which came into effect from June 21, all citizens aged 18 years and above, irrespective of their income status, are entitled to free vaccination at all government vaccination centres.

“On the death of a permanent/fixed-term contractual employee due to COVID-19, their families are paid compensation of Rs 10,00,000 and Rs. 5,00,000 respectively. Families of casual/contract workers are paid compensation of Rs 90,000 per two months’ salary,” the minister said. ”The scheme, the prime minister has announced, provides support for education and health and will create a corpus of Rs 10 lakh for each child when he or she reaches 18 years of age. This corpus will be used to give a monthly financial support/ stipend form 18 years of age, for the next five years to take care of his or her personal requirements during the period of higher education and on reaching the age of 23 years, he or she will get the corpus amount as one lump-sum for personal and professional use,” Irani said.
