Forecasters who predicted India’s coronavirus peak see new wave coming

The country may see a worsening of its outbreak as soon as this month, with the next wave peaking in the best-case scenario with less than 100,000 infections a day, or nearly 150,000 in the worst scenario, according to estimates by researchers led by Mathukumalli Vidyasagar and Manindra Agrawal at Indian Institute of Technology in Hyderabad and Kanpur respectively.

States with high Covid rates, such as Kerala and Maharashtra, could “skew the picture,” Vidyasagar told Bloomberg in an email.

479 infrastructure projects show cost overruns worth Rs 4.4 trillion

Out of 541 delayed projects, 109 projects have overall delay in the range of 1-12 months, 119 (13-24 months), 192 (25-26 months) and 121 projects (61 months and above).

The average time overrun in these 541 delayed projects is 45.76 months.

Reasons for time overruns as reported by various project implementing agencies include delay in land acquisition, delay in obtaining forest and environment clearances, and lack of infrastructure support and linkages.

Tata Motors looking at measures to offset impact of semiconductor shortage

“Yes, we are definitely impacted because of uncertainty of supplies but so far we have been able to manage somehow,” Tata Motors President Passenger Vehicles Business Unit (PVBU) Shailesh Chandra told PTI when asked if the company was facing issues in its production activities due to semiconductor shortage.
“We are looking for alternate semiconductors and at times procuring directly from stockists. We are also trying to see if a more standard chip can be used in certain components where we are facing stress. Besides, we are looking at trim mix so that we don’t lose on the sales,” he added.

RBI’s new rules on interchange fee, 24/7 bulk clearing facility functional

National Automated Clearing House (NACH) has been made available on all days of the week, effective August 1, 2021.

NACH, a bulk payment system operated by the National Payments Corporation of India (NPCI) facilitates one-to-many credit transfers such as payment of dividend, interest, salary and pension.

It also facilitates collection of payments pertaining to electricity, gas, telephone, water, periodic instalments towards loans, investments in mutual funds and insurance premium.

Myanmar has the highest coronavirus mortality rate in Southeast Asia

In the last seven days, the death rate per capita in Myanmar has surpassed that in Indonesia and Malaysia and has become the worst in Southeast Asia. The country’s healthcare system was quickly overwhelmed by new COVID-19 patients.

Medical oxygen supplies are dwindling, and the government has restricted its private sales in many places, saying it is trying to prevent backlogs. But this has led to widespread accusations that supplies are being channeled to government supporters and military hospitals.

She, however, also made it clear that she is in the process of mobilising further resources for his treatment.

Sheela sought an order from the Supreme Court thereby directing the officials of the Union of India (UOI) and other appropriate authorities–PM Cares Fund, PM Relief Fund, Madhya Pradesh Chief Minister’s Relief Fund, and others — to consider and release the requisite funds in terms of the estimated cost, as has been demanded by the hospital, where Manish is being treated for COVID-19.

Simplified patent, copyright registration helping India become an innovation hub: Piyush Goyal

The number of patents granted has gone up from 6,326 in 2015-16 to 28,391 in 2020-21, while Trade Marks registration has shot up from 65,045 in 2015-16 to 2,55,993 in 2020-21. Similarly, while 4,505 Copyrights were granted in 2015-16, a total of 16,402 were granted last fiscal, said the ministry.

Industry Minister Piyush Goyal reiterated the Government’s commitment to bolster the ecosystem of patents, design, trademarks, GI (Geographical Indication) systems; to encourage innovation, research and development in the country and bring newer inventions and knowledge from India’s heritage systems to a global platform.
