Gas leak at LG Polymers plant in Andhra Pradesh kills six, over 120 hospitalised

The commissioner of the Visakhapatnam city corporation said styrene leaked from the plant during the early hours of the morning, when families in the surrounding villages were asleep.

“Hundreds of people have inhaled it and either fell unconscious or having breathing issues,” Srijana Gummalla, Commissioner, Greater Visakhapatnam Municipal Corporation said on Twitter.

SBI Life’s PAT grows by 7% to Rs1,420 crore in FY 2020

Value of New Business (VoNB) for the life insurer increased by 17 per cent to Rs 2,100 crore in FY 2020. Value of New Business ( VoNB) margin of the company increased from 19.8 per cent in FY 2019 to 20.7 per cent in FY 2020 (with effective tax rate). There has been a 102 bps increase in VoNB margin to 18.7 per cent.

General insurers receive 900 Covid-19 claims for Rs 18 cr

The general insurance companies have received 900 claims for over Rs 17 crore for Covid-19 treatment till Monday,according the General Insurance Council, the official representative body of the domestic general insurers.

Maharashtra at around 450 claims for about Rs 8 crore have remained at the top of the claim chart. The city of Mumbai itself has generated around 350 claims for around Rs 4 crore.

African swine fever detected in India for 1st time; 2,500 pigs die in Assam

“The National Institute of High Security Animal Diseases (NIHSAD), Bhopal, has confirmed that it is African Swine Fever (ASF). The Central government has informed us that it is the first instance of the disease in the country,” Animal Husbandry Minister Atul Bora said.

While swine flu can spread from animals to humans, swine fever does not, and therefore is not a public health threat.
