FASTag to be mandatory for vehicles from Jan 1, says Nitin Gadkari

FASTags, which facilitate electronic payment of fee at toll plazas, was introduced in 2016. Making the tags compulsory would also help in ensuring that vehicles pass seamlessly through the toll plazas as fee payment would be done electronically.

Union Minister for Road Transport, Highways and MSMEs Nitin Gadkari has announced that FASTag is being made mandatory for all vehicles in the country from the new year, the Ministry of Road Transport and Highways said in a statement.

FDI growth story to ‘Go Well’ in 2021 too

Foreign direct investment equity inflows into India crossed the $500 billion milestone between April 2000 to September 2020, strengthening the country’s credentials as an investment destination.

About 29 per cent of the FDI came through the Mauritius route. It was followed by Singapore (21 per cent), the United States, the Netherlands, Japan (each 7 per cent) and the United Kingdom (6 per cent). The other big investors have been from Germany, Cyprus, France and Cayman Islands.

COVID-19: India records 23,950 new cases

The number of people who have recuperated from the disease surged to 96,63,382 pushing the national recovery rate to 95.69 per cent, while the COVID-19 case fatality rate stands at 1.45 per cent.

The COVID-19 active caseload remained below 3 lakh for the second consecutive day.

There are 2,89,240 active cases of coronavirus infection in the country which comprises 2.86 per cent of the total caseload, the data stated.

A bench headed by NGT Chairperson Justice Adarsh Kumar Goel held that the cause of Benzimidazole gas leakage at Sainor Life Sciences factory at Parwada industrial area was operational negligence of the management and its employees,

There were serious lapses in not following standard safety norms under the said rules requiring onsite and offsite emergency plans, conducting mock drills every six months and undertaking manufacture of Benzimidazole without consent.

Stop misuse, wastage of potable water: NGT

The tribunal was hearing a plea filed by city resident Mahesh Chandra Saxena seeking a direction to stop misuse and wastage of the potable water forthwith and to install CCTV cameras at the water filling points of Delhi Jal Board.The applicant noted that there is indiscriminate misuse and wastage of potable water by government agencies.
