Vaccinating everyone above 18 yrs to cost just 0.36% of GDP: India Ratings

”This means that the total size of the population that will now be eligible for vaccination would be 84.19 crore out of the total population of 133.26 crore,” India Ratings and Research said a note.

Assuming two doses of vaccines at Rs 400 per dose for new vaccine procurement and 5 per cent wastage, the cost for the central government will come to Rs 62,103 crore for 155.4 crore doses, it said.

The total of the two comes to Rs 67,193 crore which ”works out to be just 0.36 per cent of GDP,” it noted.

The maximum impact is likely to be on Bihar (0.60 per cent of gross state domestic product or GSDP), followed by Uttar Pradesh (0.47 per cent), Jharkhand (0.37 per cent), Manipur (0.36 per cent), Assam (0.35 per cent), Madhya Pradesh (0.30 per cent) and Odisha (0.30 per cent).

FM asks IRDAI to act against insurers for denying cashless claims

‘Reports are being received of some hospitals denying cashless insurance. Spoken to Chairman, IRDAI Shri SC Khuntia to act immediately. In March’20 #Covid included as a part of comprehensive health insurance. Cashless available at networked or even temporary hospitals,’ the minister said in a series of tweets.

The Insurance Regulatory Development Authority of India (IRDAI), she added, has asked insurance companies to prioritise settlement of COVID claims.

`Insurer can’t invest more than 10% of their outstanding debt in a single InvIT/REITs issue’

-The cumulative Investments in Units and Debt Instruments of InvITs and REITs shall not exceed 3% of total fund size of the Insurer at any point of time.

– No investment can  be made in Debt instruments of an InvIT/REIT where the sponsor is under the promoter group of the insurer.
Investment in Debt Instruments of InvIT will form part “Infrastructure Investments”.

SC wants “national plan” on Covid-19 situation, including on oxygen supply; Del HC says “country being run by God”

While the top court ‘suo motu’ (on its own) took note of the “grim” situation in the country and the havoc caused due to shortage of oxygen cylinders in hospitals, the Delhi High Court observed, “We all know that this country is being run by God,” a day after it came down heavily on the Centre over the Covid-19 management.

Notified new policy on rare diseases, approved budget of Rs 25 crore for treatment: Centre to HC

Regarding funding of the treatment to be provided to the children suffering from rare diseases, the ministry said that funds allocated for the purpose in the financial year 2020-21 were unutilised and lapsed.

However, Rs 4.10 crore under the rare disease component of the umbrella scheme of Rashtriya Arogya Nidhi (RAN) for 2020-21 has been remitted to AIIMS, the ministry said and added that the budget estimate for 2021-22 for treating rare diseases was Rs 25 crore and this amount can be enhanced based on its utilisation.
