“However, it has ensured that aviation will be seriously impacted by COVID-19. The April-June quarter, traditionally one of the stronger quarters of the year for Indian airlines, is increasingly looking like it will be a washout,” the report said.

India has reported 492 cases of coronavirus and nine deaths, according to Health Ministry data on Tuesday. The total number of active COVID-19 cases across the country now stands at 446, after over 22 fresh cases were reported, the ministry said.

Addressing a press conference on Tuesday, Sitharaman has reiterated that an economic package will be announced sooner, rather than later.
The government is closely monitoring the situation, she said.

Though 21 days lock down include almost all institutions in the country, a few  establishments including banks, insurance offices, and ATMs will allowed to remain open..

In case of health insurance policies, the insurers may condone delay in renewal up to 30 days without deeming such condonation as a break in policy. However, insurers are requested to contact the policyholders well in advance so as not to have a discontinuance in coverage.

According to the estimates, the number of confirmed cases could rise to more than 4,000 by the end of March and to between 30,000 and 230,000 by end-April.

This is the third death reported from Mumbai in connection with the coronavirus
