As per the projections, the salary bill of the government will go up from Rs 1.50 lakh crore in last fiscal to Rs 1.58 lakh crore this year. It will further rise to Rs 1.66 lakh crore in 2019-20 and Rs 1.74 lakh crore in 2020-21.However, the pension outgo with outpace the salary expenditure going up from Rs 1.45 lakh crore in last fiscal to Rs 1.68 lakh crore in current fiscal, Rs 1.79 lakh crore in 2019-20 and Rs 1.84 lakh crore in 2020-21.

In the 2016-17 crop year, total claims to the tune of Rs 15,352 crore were paid to the farmers, he said.
To a query on drop in coverage under the PMFBY during 2017-18, the minister said this is mainly due to factors like the announcement of debt waiver scheme in Maharashtra and Uttar Pradesh, farmers’ perception of mitigated risk, duplication due to Aadhar, among others.

Laptop Battery fire in checked luggage could bring down an Airliner: Study
Regulators had thought that single lithium battery fires would be knocked down by the flame-retardant gas required in passenger airliner cargo holds. But tests conducted by the U.S. Federal Aviation Administration found the suppression systems can’t extinguish a battery fire that combines with other highly flammable material, such as the gas in an aerosol can or cosmetics commonly carried by travelers.
