EPFO settles 56.79 lakh COVID-19 advance claims, releases over Rs 14,000 cr till Dec

According to the source, the EPFO has settled 197.91 lakh claims related to final settlement, death, insurance, advance claims and disbursed Rs 73,288 crore till December 31, 2020.

The amount of disbursals under COVID-19 claims to subscribers is a sizable amount of over one fifth of the total disbursement during the period by the EPFO.

Metropolis Healthcare to acquire Hitech Diagnostic Centre in a cash, stock deal

By the acquisition, Metropolis will get an access to 31 laboratories, including three NABL- and ICMR-accredited laboratories and 68 collection centres of Hitech. The acquisition is expected to be completed within three months, it added.

Metropolis Healthcare Managing Director Ameera Shah said, “In line with the strategy to grow, gain market share and increase B2C (business-to-consumer) revenues in focus cities, we are acquiring Hitech Diagnostic Centre which will strengthen our leadership position in the South India market.”

Insurers expect to settle over £1.8bn in Covid-19 related UK claims including BI policies

Today’s ruling had other bad news for insurers. Under the original judgement, cover for BI losses due to business closures during lockdown would have been based on a strict definition of lockdown, when closures were mandatory. The Court decided that this interpretation was too narrow and that cover should include closure instructions from a public authority, even if not backed by the force of law.
Customers who have made claims that are affected by the test case will be contacted by their insurer to discuss what the judgment means for their claim. All valid claims will be settled as soon as possible and in many cases the process of settling claims has begun, said UK’s Association of British Insurers.

On December 31 last year, Union Home Secretary Ajay Bhalla wrote to Chief Election Commissioner Sunil Arora requesting the commission’s help in identifying people above 50 years of age at the polling station level, the sources said.
