According to sources, ZyCoV-D, a needle-free coronavirus vaccine, is likely to be available by early October. It is the world’s first plasmid DNA vaccine for Covid-19.
It’s a three-dose vaccine that will be administered on day zero, day 28, and day 56. The vaccine has been approved to be administered to adolescents between ages 12 and 18.

As a result, Adar Poonawalla, Serum Institute’s CEO said, the export of vaccines for COVAX — the ambitious initiative created to ensure equitable access to COVID-19 vaccines set up by the World Health Organization, vaccines alliance GAVI and CEPI, a global coalition to fight epidemics — won’t begin until March or April.
Health Minister Harsh Vardhan clarified on Twitter on Sunday that the emergency use approval for COVAXIN was “in clinical trial mode”, wherein all recipients of the vaccine would be tracked and monitored as if they were in trial.
“We want the vaccine to be affordable and accessible to all. The government of India will receive it at a far more affordable price of USD 3-4, since they will be buying in a larger volume,” said Adar Poonawalla,CEO,Serum Institute of India,
“Our first phase (of vaccination) comprises priority groups with a high risk of mortality and our healthcare and frontline workers. For them, we believe, we have enough (Covid-19 vaccine) stockpile,” V K Paul,Chairman of National Expert Group On Vaccine Administration for Covid-19, told PTI in an interview.

In a series of tweets after the Drugs Controller General of India (DCGI) approved Oxford”s vaccine Covishield and Bharat Biotech”s Covaxin for restricted emergency use, Modi said it will make every Indian proud that both the vaccines are made in India.
COVAXIN has been fast-tracked like no other vaccine in India. The company said in November it was likely to be launched in the second quarter of 2021, while a government scientist had suggested it might be February or March.
