Free vaccine, foodgrains to cost govt up to Rs 1.45 lakh cr

Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s announcement of providing free inoculation to all adults will entail total spending of anywhere between Rs 45,000 crore and Rs 50,000 crore. This is higher than Rs 35,000 crore that the government had budgeted.Extending 5 kg of wheat or rice and 1 kg of pulses every month to nearly 80 crore beneficiaries till November will cost between Rs 1.1 lakh crore to Rs 1.3 lakh crore.

Building inspection for fire safety certificates begins in Delhi

The national capital last year witnessed some major fire incidents which claimed many lives.

On December 8, 2019, 45 people were killed when a massive fire ripped through a four-story building housing illegal manufacturing units in north Delhi’s congested Anaj Mandi area. Almost all the deceased were migrant laborers hailing from Bihar and Uttar Pradesh.

On February 12, 2019, a major fire engulfed a hotel in central Delhi’s congested Karol Bagh area, killing 17 people, including two who jumped off the building in a desperate bid to save themselves. The deceased included three Myanmar nationals, an IRS officer, and two staffers of the hotel.

State-owned banks getting ready for privatisation may come out with VRS

Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman while unveiling Budget 2021-22 on February 1 had announced that the government proposed to take up the privatization of two public sector banks (PSBs) and one general insurance company.An attractive VRS will make them lean and fit for takeover by the private sector entities that are keen to enter the banking space, the sources said.

Cyclone ‘Yaas’: Over 76,000 people submit applications for Bengal govt’s aid

People have been submitting applications from June 3 to get compensation under specified programmes of the departments of agriculture, disaster management and civil defence, animal resources development, horticulture, fisheries and micro, small and medium enterprises.

The government will receive applications at the camps till June 18.

Centre mulling to allow domestic air travel without Covid-negative report post vaccination

While the government is considering allowing domestic air travel without Covid test reports for those who have got both doses of the vaccine, it has opposed a similar measure for international travel.

At a G7 meeting of health ministers on June 4, Union Health Minister Harsh Vardhan expressed India’s ”concern and strong opposition” to allow vaccine passports for international travel at this juncture of the pandemic.
