India: only 33% of women pay attention to their health, ICICI Lombard survey
According to the study conducted by the company, 68% of women in metros feel that any physical activity/exercise is important in order to stay healthy. However, only 33% of women pay attention to their health, with women in metros having a major share. The survey sums up the high importance of physical activities amongst women and how there is a lack of awareness around the consequences.
Irdai asks insurers not reject claims on grounds of genetic disorder
Observing that the availing of health insurance was an integral part of the Right to Health and healthcare under the Constitution, Justice Pratibha Maninder Singh had held that the clause in the insurance policy excluding a person with “genetic disorder” from availing its benefit was “discriminatory” and contrary to public policy.

The claim amount for diabetes-related kidney ailments has increased from 1.4% to 4% of total claim amount paid from FY 15-16 to FY 17-18.
Majority of the claims are paid from metropolitan cities while 32% are from non-metro cities. This could be due to the specialized treatment and dialysis facilities available in metropolitan cities.
66% of claims settled for kidney-related ailments over the last three years are under the non-surgical category, where most of the diseases are managed with dialysis. There has been a year-on-year increase in this since FY 15-16 to FY 17-18.
