Men took bigger jobs hit in pandemic across euro zone: ECB study

Men accounted for more than 60% of the jobs losses last year, while in terms of hours worked they suffered more than two-thirds of the overall drop, the ECB said in an Economic Bulletin article.

With women heavily represented in the leisure and hospitality sector, some economists and even ECB officials warned that women were at risk of losing more, but the study suggests that women found new work more easily then men.

Delta variant ‘greatest threat’ to US’ COVID-19 efforts: Dr Fauci

”Similar to the situation in the UK, the Delta variant is currently the greatest threat in the US to our attempt to eliminate COVID-19,” Fauci told reporters during a virtual news conference here.

However, the “good news” is that the US vaccines are effective against the Delta variant, said Fauci, the head of the National Institutes of Allergy and Infectious Diseases (NIAID).

Private hospitals to log 15-17% revenue growth in FY22: Crisil

“While the second wave lashed again in April, the first quarter this fiscal will be sharply better on-year, with occupancy of 75 per cent, almost double on-year. This will be largely on account of a surge in Covid-19 treatments more than offsetting the deferral of elective surgeries and outpatient footfalls,” Crisil Ratings Senior Director Manish Gupta said.

As the second wave recedes in the second quarter, Crisil expects pent-up demand for non-Covid treatments to rebound and support occupancy, he added.

IRDAI allows home treatment as add-on cover in health insurance

Reacting to the development, Liberty General Insurance Ltd’s CEO and Whole Time Director Roopam Asthana told IANS that the “add-on cover has to be priced right taking into account the data and possible scenarios”.

Though the insurers will save on huge daily hospital room charges, the doctor and nurse fee may be on slightly on the higher side then what a hospital charges.
