Political turmoil to be the ‘new normal’ for the world in 2020, risk firm says

Many governments were caught by surprise by the scale and ferocity of the protests and ended up attempting to crackdown on the movements, deploying what human rights group have said were arbitrary arrests and indiscriminate violence. That response has ended up further radicalizing protesters and provoking more violent demonstrations, Verisk Maplecroft said in its Political Risk Outlook 2020.

RBI issues new debit and credit card rules to improve security

RBI has directed banks and other card issuers to enable cards only for use at contact based points i.e. ATMs and Point of Sale (Pos) devices within India at the time of issue of the cards. This means that when a card is issued it will, by default, only be usable to physically swipe at a PoS or at a ATM. It would not be enabled for use online or for contact-less transactions.

Income tax relief likely in Budget: Flat rates, fewer exemptions being considered

At present, an individual can save upto ₹1.5 lakh per annum under Section 80C of the Income Tax Act by making investments in insurance plans and few other specified instruments including buying a pension plan run under the NPS. An additional self contribution (up to ₹50,000) under section 80CCD (1B) is available as NPS tax benefit. In addition, there are deductions for contributing towards paying premium for health insurance and for paying installment for homes bought on loans.
