Highlighting the concerns over data privacy and data protection, Rajendra Kumar, additional secretary, Ministry of Electronics and IT, Govt of India said that many countries have come out with their statutory laws to deal with them. The Government of India has also launched massive efforts to bring all stakeholders together to ensure that we bring a common legal framework on this.
“The personal data protection bill is now in parliament for further approval. Once this becomes an act, it would make India a leading country to have a cutting-edge framework in terms of data protection,” he said.

Serum Institute gets approval to resume India trial of AstraZeneca COVID vaccine: source

AstraZeneca has resumed British clinical trials of the vaccine, one of the most advanced in development for COVID-19, after they were paused earlier this month following a serious side effect in a trial participant.

Trials have also resumed in Brazil and South Africa, but remain on hold in the United States.Indian regulators had allowed Serum’s trials of the AstraZeneca vaccine to resume under certain conditions, including increased safety monitoring and informing volunteers about new findings, a DCGI source said.

Some Indian hospitals scramble for oxygen as coronavirus cases top 5 million

At least 6% of India’s nearly 1 million active cases need oxygen support, health ministry official Rajesh Bhushan told reporters. Supplies were adequate but state governments should monitor usage and flag shortages, he said.

“The problem happens when at a facility level, if there is no inventory management. Every state should ensure this,” Bhushan said.
