Govt to roll out health cover scheme from next fiscal: FM,likely to be launched on either August 15 or October 2,
* Niti Aayog estimates NHPS will cost govt Rs 5000-6000 crore at a premium of RS 1000-1200 per family assuming 50% coverage in the first year
* Centre and state share will be 60:40. Hence the Centre will have to shell out Rs 3000 crore
* Scheme can be funded from 1% additional cess which will fetch Rs 11,000 crore
* Challenge will be scheme implementation and governance

“We don’t want four government owned general insurers competing each other. We would prefer two general insurance companies in the market. That means three of the public sector general insurance companies should merge first and then go for listing ,’’ said Ravi, Mittal, additional secretary,Ministry of Finance.

“We are now launching a flagship national health protection scheme to cover 10 crore poor and vulnerable families. This is approximately 50 crore beneficiaries, by providing them up to Rs 5 lakh per family per year for secondary and tertiary care hospitalisation,” Jaitley said presenting the 2018-19 Union Budget.
