NGT notice to Centre on plea for quashing notification on groundwater extraction
A bench headed by NGT Chairperson Justice Adarsh Kumar Goel said the Central Ground Water Authority (CGWA) was repeatedly issuing notification liberalising ground water extraction in water scarcity areas in spite of the need for stringent action, contrary to the very purpose for which it was setup.
The tribunal also issued notice to the Central Pollution Control Board (CPCB), and said water is a scarce resource on which life is dependent and its extraction has to be duly regulated.
In areas where there is water scarcity, extraction can be allowed on stringent conditions of ensuring recharge, it said.

In August this year, billionaire Mukesh Ambani’s Reliance Industries announced acquisition of retail and wholesale business and the logistics and warehousing business from the Future Group as going concerns on a slump sale basis for lumpsum aggregate consideration of Rs 24,713 crore.
Future Group’s financial and insurance business is not part of the deal.

New India Assurance ,which has consistently maintained a positive growth since Covid-19 pandemic outbreak in March, has completed both H1 FY 20-21, and September month with a positive growth. The total premium of the largest general insurance company, at Rs14,100 crore, has gone up by 4 per cent y-o-y in H1 FY2020-21.
The industry’s health portfolio,which has emerged as the largest portfolio,by displacing motor business, has now a market share of 31 per cent and , has grown by 13 per cent y-o-y to Rs 22,903 crore in the first five months(Apr-Aug) of the current fiscal.
The market share of motor portfolio, generating a total premium of Rs 22, 253 crore, down 16 per cent, in H1 FY2020-21, has fallen from 37 per cent, as of Sept, 2019-20, to 30 per cent in Sept, 2020-21.
