India’s active caseload further declined to 16,35,993 as active cases decreased by 77,420 in the last 24 hours. The active cases in the country have been less than 2 lakhs since eight successive days. The daily positivity rate stands at 6.38 per cent, remaining below the 10 per cent-mark for 11 consecutive days, while the weekly positivity rate stands at 7.27 per cent.

39 lakh people displaced in India in 2020 due to climate disasters, conflicts: Report

The top three countries with high internal displacements last year were China, Philippines and Bangladesh, where over four million people were displaced, according to the State of India’s Environment Report 2021 released by the Centre for Science and Environment.The report stated that 76 per cent of the internal displacements globally in 2020 were triggered by climate disasters.

It said 4.05 crore people were displaced in the world that year, out of which, 3.07 crore people were displaced due to climate disasters and 98 lakh due to conflicts and violence.

Pandemic slows in Asia and Europe

The biggest decrease was seen in Sweden, where new cases dropped by 36 percent, followed by Nepal (minus 35 percent), India (minus 33 percent), Bahrein (32 percent), Italy (31 percent), Ukraine (30 percent) and Japan (minus 29 percent).
However the number of cases rose by just over half in Oceania, by 18 percent in Africa and five percent in Latin America and the Caribbean.
