Gen Insurers settle Rs 11,899 crore of Crop claims

In the 2016-17 crop year, total claims to the tune of Rs 15,352 crore were paid to the farmers, he said.
To a query on drop in coverage under the PMFBY during 2017-18, the minister said this is mainly due to factors like the announcement of debt waiver scheme in Maharashtra and Uttar Pradesh, farmers’ perception of mitigated risk, duplication due to Aadhar, among others.

Data protection bill deterrent for businesses who wilfully do wrong, says Justice B Srikrishna

The proposed legislation contains a provision for the ‘Right to be Forgotten’, which is in line with European data privacy laws such as General Data Protection Regulation. While the draft bill does not insist on personal data of residents of India to be stored only in India, it has made an enabling provision where the government can notify categories of personal data as critical data, which would be only stored
in India.

Insurers to pay interest on delayed claim pay-out to farmers

“Those insurance companies which fail to clear claims of farmers for crop loss within two months, will have to repay with 12 per cent interest,” Union Agriculture Minister Radha Mohan Singh said. 10 crore farmers in the country have taken the cover of the PMFBY and five crore of them availed insurance benefits so far.
