General insurers grow by 13 % to Rs 81,873 cr in H1 FY 2018-19

The month of September has seen the New India Assurance(NIA), the leader in the industry,at Rs 2450 crore,  recording no growth  at all and National Insurance Company(Rs 893 crore) and Bajaj Allianz General Insurance (839 crore)  and Cholamandalam General Insurance(Rs 309 rore) recording a negative growth of  29 per cent, 40 per cent ,and  26 per cent respectively.

India ranks 103 on global hunger index

India is ranked below many neighbouring countries, including China (25th spot), Nepal (72), Myanmar (68), Sri Lanka (67) and Bangladesh (86). Pakistan is placed at the 106th position. 
While noting that hunger varies enormously by region, the report said this year’s GHI scores for South Asia and Africa south of the Sahara reflect serious levels of hunger.

New Zika virus cases detected in Rajasthan’s Jaipur, count in state hits 55

A control room has been activated at the National Centre for Disease Control to monitor the situation. The number of monitoring teams in Jaipur has been increased from 50 to 170 and a special isolation ward created at the Hira Bagh Training Centre to treat Zika virus-affected patients.The virus, transmitted through the aedes aegypti mosquito, causes fever, skin rashes, conjunctivitis, muscle and joint pain. It is harmful to pregnant women, as it can lead to microcephaly, a condition in which a baby’s head is significantly smaller than expected, in newborn children

Sell-off continues: FPIs pull-out Rs 266-bn in Oct on rupee, oil concerns

FPIs have been net sellers almost throughout this year except a couple of months. However, experts said the swiftness of the exit in October thus far has shaken the market.
Negative sentiments from the global market on concerns over a slowing world economy led by lingering trade war between the US and China triggered the FPI pullout, said Vinod Nair, Head of Research, Geojit Financial Services.

Air India pilots, clueless of damage, fly plane, land after airport alerts

Commenting on the incident, Civil Aviation Minister Suresh Prabhu said he had recently ordered putting in place a third-party professional organisation to look into various safety aspects at Air India.
In order to have continuous attention towards air safety, I have also ordered concerned officials to put in place a regular ‘safety compliance report’ of all airlines. Safety of passengers is of paramount importance for us,” the Minister said.
