Creation of health ID under NDHM not mandatory for citizens: Ashwini Choubey

On August 15, 2020, Prime Minister Narendra Modi announced the NDHM, following which NDHM pilot mode was launched in the Union Territories of Chandigarh, Ladakh, Dadra and Nagar Haveli and Daman and Diu, Puducherry, Andaman and Nicobar Islands and Lakshadweep. The budget allocated for the NDHM for 2020-21 is Rs 30 crore, Choubey said in a written reply to a question in the Lok Sabha.

Fines, jail term for breach of UK’s new Covid-19 travel rules

In a statement to the House of Commons, Health Secretary Matt Hancock unveiled the new rules to come into force from next Monday, which also include two additional compulsory PCR tests on arrival during a 10-day hotel quarantine as part of a 1,750 pounds pre-booked package covering accommodation, transport and testing.

“From Monday, all international arrivals will be required by law to take further PCR tests on day two and day eight of that quarantine,” said Hancock.

India achieves 60 lakh Covid-19 vaccinations in 24 days, fastest in world: Health ministry

Twenty-three deaths have been recorded till date which comprise 0.0004 per cent of the total vaccinations, the ministry said. Of these, nine people died in hospital while 14 deaths were recorded outside the hospital.

In 24 hours, a 29-year-old woman, a resident of Srikakulam in Andhra Pradesh, has died.

“None of these deaths have been causally linked with Covid-19 vaccination. No case of serious/severe AEFI/Death is attributable to vaccination, till date,” the ministry stated.

Number of newborns in China drops 15% in 2020 as coronavirus weighs

China saw 10.035 million births last year, the ministry said on Monday, compared with 11.79 million in 2019. Of those born last year, 52.7% were boys and 47.3% girls.

In recent years, many couples have been reluctant to have children due to the rising cost of health care, education and housing. The abandoning of the decades-long one-child policy in 2016 has not provided much impetus to the country’s birth rate.
