SC directs NDMA to issue norms for financial help to kin of Covid victims

A special bench of Justices Ashok Bhushan and M R Shah said that the court cannot direct the Centre to fix a particular amount of financial help but the government can fix the minimum standard of amount to be paid as ex-gratia to family members of those who lost their lives due to COVID-19 while keeping various aspects in mind.

The top court asked the Centre to consider formulating an insurance scheme for cremation workers as proposed by the Finance Commission.
It also directs the authorities to issue appropriate guidelines for simplification of process of issuance of death certificates for Covid fatalities.

India asks EU member states to consider Covishield, Covaxin vaccines under Green Pass scheme

India has requested the EU member nations to accept the vaccination certificate issued through the CoWIN portal.

Highly transmissible Covid Delta variant detected in 96 countries, says WHO

Furthermore, a recent study conducted in Scotland and published in the international medical journal Lancet found that the hospitalization rate for patients infected with the Delta variant of COVID-19 was 85 per cent higher than for those infected with the Alpha variant.

“This particular Delta variant is faster, it is fitter, it will pick off the more vulnerable more efficiently than previous variants,” Michael Ryan, executive director of the WHO’s Health Emergencies Program, has commented recently.

Johnson & Johnson exploring ways to accelerate delivery of its COVID vaccine in India

‘We are in ongoing discussions with the Government of India and are exploring how best to accelerate our ability to deliver the Johnson & Johnson single dose COVID-19 vaccine to the people of India,” Johnson & Johnson India spokesperson said in a statement.

As per the recent announcement by the Drugs Controller General of India (DCGI), there is no longer a requirement to conduct bridging clinical studies of COVID-19 vaccines in India, the statement added.
