Khuntia led doctors panel to suggest new-age health insurance products & processes

The panel which has specialist doctorsas its members will also suggest approach on coverage of specific disease or an area of practice (e.g cardiology)

The insurance regulator IRDAI, on Monday, has formed a high powered panel, under its chairman Subhash C Khuntia, to revamp the existing health insurance products and processes 

The panel, which has only specialist doctors as its members, will also suggest approach on coverage of specific disease or an area of practice (e.g cardiology)

The committee will examine the extant health insurance product structure in terms of policy conditions to protect the interest of the policyholders and to develop strategy on treatment protocol or rate structure to improve affordability of health insurance.

Some of the members of the panel are Nachiket Mor, visiting scientist, The Banyan Academy of Leadership in Mental Health,A.K. Chand, professor and neurosurgeon, Bangalore,B.K. Mohanti, former professor and oncologist, AIIMS,K. Hari Prasad, anaesthetist, Hyderabad,Kaushik Mukherjee, cardiothoracic and vascular Surgeon, Kolkata,Khushali P Gambhir, homoeopathic physician, Chennai,Manas Kumar Panigrahi, neurosurgeon, Hyderabad,Arabind Panda, urologist, Hyderabad,,Bagyam Raghavan, radiologist, Chennai

Health Insurance in India has grown significantly in recent years and is expected to continue in the coming years, said IRDAI.

Particularly, during the last nine months, when fighting Covid-19 pandemic has remained the main focus of the country,, the health insurance business has expanded rapidly and has contributed almost 30 per cent, against 26 per cent in the year-ago period,to the overall premium kitty of the general insurance industry.
